Our Story

The Birth of the Indianapolis Wolves: A Legacy in Motion

In early 2024, amidst the buzz of basketball season and the steady rhythm of Indianapolis life, a new kind of team was born—not just built for the game, but born from a purpose much deeper than wins and losses. The Indianapolis Wolves, a women’s professional basketball team, was founded by none other than professional athlete and community leader Eron Gordon.

Basketball was in Eron’s blood, but this wasn’t just another team on a stat sheet. This was personal.

The inspiration came from a place of passion, legacy, and love. Eron, having spent years in the game himself, recognized the gaps in support and opportunity for women in professional basketball—especially at the semi-pro level. He had seen the talent, the dedication, the untapped potential of so many female athletes who simply needed a platform to shine.

And just as he was laying the groundwork for this dream, another major life event changed his perspective even more: the birth of his daughter later that year in 2024.

“I wanted her to grow up in a world where women’s sports weren’t an afterthought,” Eron said at the team’s first media day. “I wanted her to see that women are powerful, skilled, and deserve every opportunity to lead and to play.”

From that vision, the Indianapolis Wolves were born.

2024: A Season of Firsts

The inaugural season of the Wolves kicked off with fire and purpose. Recruiting some of the most promising semi-pro and former collegiate talent in the region, the team quickly made waves in the NWBC (National Women’s Basketball Conference).

But what made them special wasn’t just their stats—it was the atmosphere. The culture Eron built was focused not just on competition, but on character. Every player was not only an athlete but also a leader, a role model, and a part of something bigger.

Community engagement was present from day one. Whether it was post-game meet-and-greets, school visits, or hosting youth at home games, the Wolves’ mission was never confined to the court.

Beyond the Court: Expanding the Mission

As the team progressed through its first full season, the idea of what the Indianapolis Wolves could become began to evolve. The community embraced them not just as a team, but as a movement. Parents started reaching out about youth opportunities. Local nonprofits asked to partner. Young girls came to games wearing Wolves shirts and walked away dreaming of becoming the next great player.

By the end of the 2025 season, which wrapped up in June, one thing was clear: this was more than a basketball team. This was a platform for change.

Eron and his growing leadership team made a bold but natural decision—the Indianapolis Wolves would become a nonprofit organization. Still a professional team, yes, but also so much more. Their mission expanded to include:

  • Youth Basketball Clinics: Free and low-cost camps across Indianapolis that teach skills, teamwork, and leadership.

  • Youth Travel Teams: Creating pipelines for young athletes, especially girls, to develop on and off the court.

  • Community Service Events: From food drives to back-to-school giveaways, the Wolves committed to showing up where it mattered most.

  • Women in Sports Advocacy: Creating opportunities, panels, and workshops to uplift and support women across the sports industry.

A New Era Begins

The transition into a nonprofit was more than a paperwork change—it was a full cultural evolution. Eron worked with a dedicated team to establish the Wolves Board of Directors, bringing together local leaders, business minds, educators, former athletes, and community advocates who believed in the mission.

This board would help guide the Wolves into their next chapter—securing funding, building partnerships, and ensuring that the team remained rooted in its values.

Meanwhile, the professional team remained active and competitive, but now it also served as an anchor and inspiration for everything else. Players began mentoring youth directly. Some even launched businesses, workshops, or brands of their own under the Wolves’ support umbrella.

The message was clear: being a part of the Indianapolis Wolves meant becoming a whole person, not just a basketball player.

Where We Are Now: 2025 and Beyond

Today, the Indianapolis Wolves are in the middle of a powerful transition. What started in 2024 as a team is now a growing ecosystem for women’s sports and youth development.

  • On the court, they remain fierce competitors, proudly representing Indianapolis and paving the way for women in professional basketball.

  • Off the court, they are mentors, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.

With the support of sponsors, fans, families, and organizations across the region, the Wolves are expanding their reach every month. Clinics continue to sell out. Community events draw hundreds. And partnerships with local schools, businesses, and nonprofits help amplify their impact even more.

The birth of Eron Gordon’s daughter helped spark the vision. But it’s the daughters—and sons—of Indianapolis who now benefit from it every day.
